1. Summary
Startlet is a calm day planner for iPhone and Android phones, designed with ADHD brains in mind. We do not collect, store or share your personal information. Your tasks, notes, Mind Offload text and world progress are saved on your phone, not on our servers. Startlet has no account or sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. Startlet doesn't send your plans to us or anyone else; the only services it uses are your phone's own services from Apple or Google, described below.
2. What stays on your phone
- Your plans. Tasks, tiny first steps, notes, reminder settings, "days you showed up", Finds and your world progress, and any task icon photos you add, are stored in Startlet's private storage on your phone. That storage is shared only with Startlet's own widgets (and, on iPhone, its Live Activity) so they can show your next task. Startlet does not sync this data to iCloud, Google or us.
- Settings. Your theme, app icon choice, chosen world and similar preferences are saved on your phone.
- Device backups. If you back up your phone, the backup may include Startlet's data. On iPhone this means iCloud Backup or a computer backup, under Apple's terms. On Android, depending on your phone's settings, Android's backup service may include Startlet's data in a backup stored in your Google Account, under Google's terms.
- Deleting. Your Startlet data is stored only on your phone. To delete it, delete (uninstall) the Startlet app. This also removes its widgets and, on iPhone, its Live Activity data. On Android you can also clear Startlet's storage in Settings > Apps > Startlet > Storage (menu names vary by phone). Copies in an existing phone backup are removed when that backup is deleted or replaced. There is not yet a delete-all option inside the app. If you need help, contact us at support@prettymuchworks.com.
3. Microphone and speech recognition (Mind Offload, optional)
- If you tap the microphone in Mind Offload, your phone asks for microphone permission (and on iPhone, speech recognition permission). Typing works without it.
- The microphone is used only while you dictate. Startlet does not record or keep the audio. Only the resulting text is saved, on your phone.
- On iPhone, Startlet asks iOS to transcribe on your iPhone whenever your device supports it. If on-device recognition isn't available for your language or device, iOS may send the audio to Apple to transcribe it. Apple handles that under its own Privacy Policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). We never receive the audio or the text.
- On Android, Startlet uses your phone's speech recognition service, which may be provided by Google and may send the audio to Google's servers to transcribe it, under Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). We never receive the audio or the text.
- You can turn these permissions off at any time in iPhone Settings > Startlet, or in Android Settings > Apps > Startlet > Permissions.
4. Apple Intelligence (optional, supported iPhones only)
On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, Startlet can use Apple's on-device language model to sort your Mind Offload into separate tasks with their days and times, and to suggest a tiny first step for a task. This runs on your iPhone. We don't receive what you wrote. Apple Intelligence isn't available on Android. On Android phones and other iPhones, Startlet sorts your text with its own on-device rules.
5. Camera and Photos (task icons, optional)
- You can give a task its own icon by choosing a picture with "Choose from Photos" or by tapping "Take a photo". Both are optional, and Startlet works fully without them.
- Photos. On iPhone, "Choose from Photos" uses Apple's photo picker; on Android it uses Android's system photo picker. In both cases Startlet only receives the one picture you choose and cannot see the rest of your photo library. Startlet never saves anything to your photo library.
- Camera. Your phone may ask for camera permission the first time you take a photo. The camera is used only while you take that photo.
- What is saved. Startlet makes a small square copy of the picture (320 × 320 pixels) and saves it in Startlet's private storage on your phone. Location and other photo metadata are removed. The original picture isn't kept.
- What isn't done. Task photos are not uploaded, synced to iCloud or Google, sent to us or anyone else, or analysed. They don't appear in widgets or the Live Activity.
- Deleting. Removing or replacing a task icon deletes its photo straight away. When you delete a task, its photo is deleted the next time you open Startlet. Deleting the app removes all task photos. Copies inside an existing phone backup are removed when that backup is deleted or replaced.
- You can turn camera access off at any time in iPhone Settings > Startlet, or in Android Settings > Apps > Startlet > Permissions.
6. Notifications and widgets
- Reminders are scheduled on your phone with its own notification system. They are not sent from a server. If you start a free trial of Startlet Plus, Startlet may also remind you before the trial ends. Reminders show the task's name, so they may appear on your lock screen. You can change this in iPhone Settings > Notifications > Startlet, or in Android Settings > Apps > Startlet > Notifications.
- On iPhone, widgets, the Live Activity and the Dynamic Island can show task names and timers on your Home Screen and Lock Screen. On Android, Startlet's widgets and notifications may show task names and timers on your home screen and lock screen. Anyone who can see your screen may see them. You can remove widgets at any time, and on iPhone turn off Live Activities in iOS Settings.
7. Purchases (Startlet Plus)
Startlet Plus subscriptions and the Lifetime purchase are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store on iPhone, and by Google through Google Play on Android. We don't receive your payment details. The app checks with the App Store (StoreKit) or Google Play Billing whether you have Plus, and "Restore purchases" asks the store to confirm your purchases. Apple and Google handle this information under their own privacy policies (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/ and https://policies.google.com/privacy). We receive sales reports from App Store Connect and Google Play Console, which may include an order number and a general location; we use them only to run and support Startlet Plus, not to identify you.
To manage or cancel a subscription: on iPhone, in Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On Android, in the Play Store app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. To request a refund: for App Store purchases, at reportaproblem.apple.com; for Google Play purchases, through Google Play (https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637), or contact us.
8. Analytics and crash reports from Apple and Google
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings (Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements), Apple may give us aggregated usage and crash information through App Store Connect. On Android, if you've chosen to share usage and diagnostics data, Google Play may give us aggregated or anonymised crash and performance information (Android vitals) through Google Play Console. Apple and Google control this. It doesn't include your name or account, and you can turn it off in your phone's settings at any time.
9. Health information
Startlet is a planning tool, not a medical product, and it gives no medical advice. It does not ask about diagnoses, and it does not read or write Apple Health or Android Health Connect data. What you type into your tasks stays on your phone. If you choose to mention a diagnosis or other health information when you email us for support, we treat it as sensitive: we keep it only in our mailbox, use it only to help you, and handle it as described in our website Privacy Policy (https://www.prettymuchworks.com/privacy/).
10. Children
Startlet's ratings on the App Store (4+) and Google Play are content ratings, meaning the app contains no objectionable material; they do not mean the app is directed at children, and it is not. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Sharing and overseas disclosure
We do not sell, rent, share or disclose personal information, because we do not hold any. We do not send personal information from the app overseas. If you email us, your message is stored by our email provider, Apple (iCloud Mail), which may store it outside New Zealand; see our website Privacy Policy (https://www.prettymuchworks.com/privacy/). Apple's and Google's services described above (speech recognition, in-app purchases, the app stores and phone backups) are provided by Apple and Google under their own terms.
12. Security and retention
We hold no personal information from the app, so there is nothing from the app to retain or secure on our side. Data on your phone is protected by your phone's operating system and stays under your control until you delete it or the app. We keep support emails only for as long as we need them to respond to you and to meet our legal obligations, and then delete them.
13. Your rights
New Zealand (Privacy Act 2020)
You have the right to ask us for access to, and correction of, personal information about you (Information Privacy Principles 6 and 7). As we hold none, we will normally confirm that. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (www.privacy.org.nz).
European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)
We do not process personal data about you as a controller through the app. On-device processing (such as dictation and task sorting) happens locally and is not accessed by us. You still have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office). We don't receive or hold personal data from the app, so we haven't appointed a representative in the EU or UK. If you are in the EU or UK, contact us directly at support@prettymuchworks.com.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
In the last 12 months we have not collected, sold or shared (for cross-context behavioural advertising) any category of personal information about California residents. You have the right to know, delete, correct and opt out of sale or sharing, and the right not to be discriminated against for using these rights.
14. Changes
If Startlet ever starts collecting information, for example through cloud sync or an account, we will update this policy, the App Store privacy label and the Google Play Data safety section before that version is released, and change the effective date above.
